  • Pilates Centre
Conversion and fit-out of an old hardware shop to create a Pilates Studio with associated treatment rooms and exercise machines area. This project transformed a nondescript, cluttered retail premises into a coherent, well lit, flowing space, lined with natural, warm materials. Every element was carefully selected to produce an atmosphere that is conducive to therapy.

  • Weston Quarry
Refurbishment and conversion of an old concrete casting building to provide 8 self-contained workshop units for local artists, an exhibition room, a café and a composting toilet. The project for Weston-super-Mare Civic Society was funded by the South West Regional Development Agency. It is now a thriving arts complex. JIA continue to provide advice on sustainability issues.

  • Attic transformation, Bristol
A project to improve the headroom and natural lighting in a grade II listed building. JIA negotiated with the local conservation officer and English Heritage to create a solution that is acceptable to all parties. Initial studies focused on re-forming the attic ceiling and exposing/enhancing existing timber trusses. English Heritage were uneasy about raising the whole ceiling but a compromise was agreed that allowed new roof lights to be installed with splayed sides to create a quirky, exciting space, ideally suited as an office for a creative company.
